An aspiring magician from a young age, Derek McKee never left the house without a deck of playing cards. While taking a business course in his senior year of high school, McKee’s teacher challenged him to contemplate how to create products with meaning. Naturally, McKee thought of his card collection, grand in size, but lacking in essence. McKee began infatuated with the idea of creating cards with meaning, and Pure Imagination Projects was born. The company’s vision is to create and develop unique playing cards by using historical concepts to inspire aesthetically interesting card designs. McKee recruited the help of his friend and design student, Logan Max to collaborate on his first custom deck, inspired by the 1902 film ‘Le Voyage Dans La Lune’ by George Melies. First released for funding on Kickstarter, McKee has since partnered with various distributers and released nine unique decks. To date, McKee has sold over 20,000 decks and continues to work with designers all over the world.
